Podcaster Joe Rogan drew the ire of former President Donald Trump after he commended Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during an episode last week, which led many to believe it was an endorsement for Kennedy.
Shortly after Rogan criticized Democrats and Republicans for misleading voters, and called Kennedy “reasonable,” in an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” Thursday, he quickly denied that it was an endorsement for Kennedy.
“For the record, this isn’t an endorsement. This is me saying that I like RFK Jr as a person, and I really appreciate the way he discusses things with civility and intelligence. I think we could use more of that in this world,” Rogan wrote in a post on X.
“I also think Trump raising his fist and saying “fight!” after getting shot is one of the most American (expletive) things of all time. I’m not the guy to get political information from. If you want that from a comic, go to @ComicDaveSmith. He actually knows what he’s talking about,” he continued.
While Kennedy welcomed Rogan’s support with open arms, writing in a social media post “From one ‘legitimate’ guy to another, thank you,” Trump fired back on Truth Social.
“It will be interesting to see how loudly Joe Rogan gets BOOED the next time he enters the UFC Ring??? MAGA2024,” Trump wrote.
Rogan is also the ring host for UFC events throughout the year.
After claims of his RFK Jr endorsement spread, Rogan posed with with comedian Shane Gillis in an Instagram post, who was dressed up as Trump for a live recording of the Kill Tony podcast in New York City on Saturday.
“Ran into Trump. Everything is cool,” Rogan captioned the post.
Rogan has a mixed background in political endorsements that span both sides of the aisle.
Rogan has said he did not vote for President Joe Biden or Trump in 2020, but has expressed support for politicians, including Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
During the 2020 primary Rogan endorsed Sanders during his presidential bid.
“He’s basically been saying the same thing, been for the same thing his whole life. And that in and of itself is a very powerful structure to operate from,” Rogan said of Sanders on his podcast.
In 2022, Rogan said DeSantis would “work as a good president,” and praised his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Florida.
